Decide what needs changing
Keep the layout: replace agreed finishes or fittings while checking retained services and substrate condition.
Change the layout: assess new service routes, floor levels, fittings and ventilation before removal.
Strip out and rebuild: identify demolition, disposal, repairs, service work, specialist stages and complete reinstatement boundaries.
Bathroom renovation contractors should say which of these they are pricing. A bath renovation that retains sound elements is different from a full room rebuild.
Check the cause before changing the finish
A damp patch, loose tile or recurring crack needs an assessment of the cause. Tiling over the visible symptom can leave the underlying problem unresolved. Where the concern requires a structural or waterproofing specialist, that input is arranged before selecting the remedy.
We explain what is visible, what may need opening up and what remains uncertain. Newly discovered work is recorded and priced through the agreed change procedure, rather than hidden in an undefined “complete renovation” promise.
A scope that shows the whole sequence
| Stage | What your quotation should clarify |
|---|---|
| Protection and removal | Access route, retained fittings, demolition limits, debris and disposal |
| Assessment after opening | Substrate defects, concealed services and any professional review |
| Service alterations | Plumbing/electrical work, responsible trades and required checks |
| Wet-area interface | Civil readiness, specialist waterproofing, testing/release and protection |
| Reinstatement | Floor build-up, falls, tiles, fittings, sealant/detail interfaces and finishing |
| Handover | Functional checks, snag closure, records and responsibilities |
This site covers the civil renovation scope. Specialist waterproofing is separately allocated and coordinated; the programme must allow its required stages before dependent finishes proceed.
If this is your only bathroom
Tell us on the first call. We agree when the toilet, shower, water and power will be unavailable and whether safe temporary arrangements are practical. A full strip-out cannot be described as uninterrupted bathroom use.
Occupied-home work also needs protected routes, separation from dust and agreed working arrangements. In apartments or shared buildings, access and management conditions must be checked rather than assumed.
Compare bathroom remodelling by item
Ask whether the price includes removal, disposal, substrate repairs, service alterations, tile supply allowances, installation and the fittings themselves. Wall tile area and floor area are different quantities. Owner-supplied products still need delivery, storage and installation arrangements.
Our quotation comparison checklist helps make the scope comparable. We price bathroom renovation services after the relevant assessment instead of applying a whole-house floor-area rate to the room.
Questions before renovating your bathroom
I only have one bathroom. How do I manage while it is being renovated?+
We discuss the outage and practical alternatives before booking the start. The answer depends on the extent of removal and the building's services. Temporary arrangements may not be safe or feasible; alternative accommodation/use may be needed during part of the work.
Can I replace the tiles without replacing everything else?+
Sometimes, but retained fittings, substrate condition, waterproofing interfaces and the risk of damage must be assessed. A limited scope should state its limitations. We do not promise that existing concealed work can be warranted as new.
Will I save money if I keep the toilet and shower in the same place?+
It can reduce service alterations, but savings depend on their actual condition and the rest of the work. A retained position is not proof that pipes, floor preparation or specialist protection are sound.
How long will my bathroom be out of use?+
We confirm a programme after defining the scope, material availability, specialist sequence and site working restrictions. Curing, testing and unresolved conditions cannot responsibly be replaced by a fixed number of days advertised for every bathroom.
What happens if something is still wrong at handover?+
We record the snag, responsible party and closure action. Our workmanship and supplied-material defects are addressed under the written contract. Report recurring symptoms for investigation rather than accepting another cosmetic cover-up.
